SIO Bengkel#2 Instructional Leadership 21.02.19

The day finally arrived after much planning and preparation by PLT team.

Facilitators SISC+ Zainab and Mirinda with PPD officer Ismail skillfully took the SIO through the key aspects of Instructional Leadership linking this to KPM’s vision.

The SIO explored what makes an effective learning environment in preparation for determining how SLT and ML can use LW and PLC to improve classroom practice.

For visiting LeapEd DTP-AMAN coaches, it was interesting to see the PLT cascading the knowledge, skills and approaches they themselves had experienced just a few weeks ago during C3 PLT CPD.

Next steps are for SIO to coach the SLT and ML in their designated schools to implement LW and PLC over the next few weeks.

Sustainable transformation!

FROG ASIA VLE Bengkel 20.02.19

I was priviledged to join the Frog Asia VLE 3 day workshop today for ICT teachers at PKG Kuah.

ICT teachers were able to experience hands-on how to develop Project-based Learning (PBL) using VLE with students – all part of PAK 21.

FROG ASIA facilitator Azima explains what each tab on the VLE page is for and ensures the ICT teachers are confident with each step.

Learning Walk at SMK Tunku Putra 21.02.19

SIO joined PLT team members and LeapEd DTP- AMAN coaches on a visit to SMK Tunku Putra today to see the impact of recent coaching about Learning Walks to SLT and ML.

The focus of the LW was determined by the school and was a follow up from an earlier LW SKPMg2 Std 4.4.1. Observers used google form to record their observations of a range of classes.

At the end of LW, observers met briefly to share their initial impressions of both the LW process and their impressions of classroom practice of SKPMg2 Std 4.4.1.

Collated LW data will be discussed by SLT, ML and PLT to identify strengths, areas for improvement and next steps. SLT and ML will then hold a PLC to share the LW data analysis with teachers and agree with planned next steps.

PLT Team On A CPD Roll…

What a difference having an open mind and a strong desire to learn and improve makes when making big changes to mindsets.

PPD Langkawi PLT team members have increasingly demonstrated their understanding of the DTP- AMAN approach to CPD planning and delivery and are now doing this with minimal support from their LE coach.

What has been very pleasing to see is the collaboration between SISC+ and PPD officers from different Units. Confidence to share knowledge, resources and hold professional discussions are regular features of the CPD planning and delivery process.

Cascading the DTP-AMAN approach is becoming evident at the school level with PLT team members sharing their skills as they interact with SLT and ML. The focus is now on building the capability of SIO to take a similar approach as they connect with the other schools under the care of PPD Langkawi.

Preparation for SIO Bengkel#2 Instructional Leadership – LW and PLC

PLT team members are collaborating well to plan for an engaging workshop to share their learnings from C3 PLT CPD about Learning Walks and PLCs as part of Instructional Leadership. Under SKPMg2 Std 1.1 and 1.2, SLT have a key role to coach and mentor their staff as leaders of learning in their school. In order to support SLT and ML, the SIO have to ensure they have a common, deep understanding of Instructional Leadership.

Some of the PLT team activities over the past two weeks to prepare for the workshop include:

– follow up, follow through (FUFT) visits to SLT and ML to discuss the school’s action plans for LW and PLCs

– offering workshop to all PPD officers on how to use google form to create surveys for data collection

– collaborative PLT team planning for the SIO workshop

– working alongside SK Bayas and SMK Tunku Putra SLT and ML to plan for LW involving LeapEd DTP-AMAN coaches, SLT and ML, and PPD officers focussing on positive learning environment and use of questioning techniques to encourage student thinking

Tomorrow is the culmination of all this pre- work. The SIO workshop #2 should be a great success judging by the efforts of the PLT team.

Below are some photos of the workshop for any interested PPD officers about Google Form…
