Deep Dive into SKPMg2 Std 4 for SIO 27-28 Mei 2019 – Part 2

Day 2:

a) Refresher on SKPMg2 Std 4 learning from Day 1 – Inside Outside Circle

b) Video Critique:

– applying deeper knowledge of Std 4 to a real classroom lesson

– process, recording, assessing based on evidence

– opportunity to ask questions, to clarify, to develop consistent understandings as PPD officers

Key questions:

1. How can PPD officers support schools to focus on quality instructional transformation that puts students at the centre of all decision-making ?

2. Is there alignment and common understanding of acceptable teacher competency across all education agencies that have an impact on schools?

Deep Dive into SKPMg2 Std 4 for SIO 27-28 Mei 2019

Continuing the capacity building of SIO to better support school transformation in 2019, SISC+ facilitated two workshops so SIO could deep dive into SKPMg2 Std 4.

Day 1:

a) SIO take a pre-quiz about their SKPMg2 prior knowledge

b) SIO role playing coach / coachee session about the Learning Walk process in schools.

A key coaching practice is to provide opportunities for the coachee to reflect on their PdPc by asking open questions.

c) SIO refer to DTP-AMAN open questions for SKPMg2 as a useful support tool they can use during discussions with SLT and MLT. Focus on quality teaching and learning leading to improved student outcomes.

d) SIO unpack specific SKPMg2 Std 4 aspects – what would they expect to see in the classroom if this was being done well.

SIO Bengkel#2 Instructional Leadership 21.02.19

The day finally arrived after much planning and preparation by PLT team.

Facilitators SISC+ Zainab and Mirinda with PPD officer Ismail skillfully took the SIO through the key aspects of Instructional Leadership linking this to KPM’s vision.

The SIO explored what makes an effective learning environment in preparation for determining how SLT and ML can use LW and PLC to improve classroom practice.

For visiting LeapEd DTP-AMAN coaches, it was interesting to see the PLT cascading the knowledge, skills and approaches they themselves had experienced just a few weeks ago during C3 PLT CPD.

Next steps are for SIO to coach the SLT and ML in their designated schools to implement LW and PLC over the next few weeks.

Sustainable transformation!

Learning Walk at SMK Tunku Putra 21.02.19

SIO joined PLT team members and LeapEd DTP- AMAN coaches on a visit to SMK Tunku Putra today to see the impact of recent coaching about Learning Walks to SLT and ML.

The focus of the LW was determined by the school and was a follow up from an earlier LW SKPMg2 Std 4.4.1. Observers used google form to record their observations of a range of classes.

At the end of LW, observers met briefly to share their initial impressions of both the LW process and their impressions of classroom practice of SKPMg2 Std 4.4.1.

Collated LW data will be discussed by SLT, ML and PLT to identify strengths, areas for improvement and next steps. SLT and ML will then hold a PLC to share the LW data analysis with teachers and agree with planned next steps.

PLT Team On A CPD Roll…

What a difference having an open mind and a strong desire to learn and improve makes when making big changes to mindsets.

PPD Langkawi PLT team members have increasingly demonstrated their understanding of the DTP- AMAN approach to CPD planning and delivery and are now doing this with minimal support from their LE coach.

What has been very pleasing to see is the collaboration between SISC+ and PPD officers from different Units. Confidence to share knowledge, resources and hold professional discussions are regular features of the CPD planning and delivery process.

Cascading the DTP-AMAN approach is becoming evident at the school level with PLT team members sharing their skills as they interact with SLT and ML. The focus is now on building the capability of SIO to take a similar approach as they connect with the other schools under the care of PPD Langkawi.
